Ladhak & Kashmir 2010 - Day 10 - Zanskar - A School Amidst Breathtaking Landscapes

On our way back, we stopped at Lamdon Marpaling school. Literally in the lap of nature. We didn’t see any students then, but a few staff members, one of whom was French or something. A European. I did have a brief conversation with him, don’t remember the details.

Years later, when I heard about amir khan’s having founded a school in ladhak, I thought, was this the one, but it turned out, it wasn’t.

It was bright and sunny, thank God, for without sunshine the beautiful, subtly varying contours, the grainy surfaces of some unusually smooth grass covered hills, the striations on some other rocky ones, the ever so subtle shades of jade, mauve, grey and beige would all have been a grey mass with no distinct character.

There were brown and white horses looking very surreal, being the only creatures dotting the towering, expansive landscapes around them.
